A Chinese smuggler recently caught in Kenya with a haul of ivory was fined less than a dollar a piece and set free!
Is this a serious anti-poaching national policy?

The Chinese smuggler, Mr. Tian Yi, was arrested on Sunday while in transit in Nairobi carrying 439 pieces of worked ivory, on his way to Honk Kong. They were then hidden in a suitcase and mixed with tree barks to disguise it as traditional medicine.

In January, four Chinese men who pleaded guilty in a Kenyan court to smuggling thousands of dollars worth of ivory were fined just $340 (250 euros) each, and set free.

Lots of room for improvement, our African friends.
And Kenya has been talking already for too long about changing the laws on ivory and poaching.
And in the meantime the elephants are being slaughtered.
